Since heading to the Middle East following his unceremonious Manchester United exit, the Portuguese has bagged 58 goals and 15 assists in 64 games.

However, Ronaldo struggled to capture the same form for his nation at Euro 2024 as he laboured around for five games without scoring as Portugal were eliminated on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Following the tournament he has been spending holiday time with his family.

In a recent post to his Instagram story, Ronaldo shared a picture of him sitting down after participating in a padel match.

But with 635 million followers, Ronaldo is the most followed person on Instagram.

So it was inevitable some eagle-eyed fans would spot the seemingly minor detail of a hat with a Sporting Lisbon logo featuring on a table next to him.

Ronaldo played for Sporting at the start of his career before he joined the Red Devils in 2003, and this led to some fans being convinced it was a hint towards his next club.

Taking to social media, one fan said: "He's going back to Sporting, retirement is coming soon."

A second said: "He will return to Sporting."
